Show Off!

Today I just thought I'd show of some off my teardrop bouquets - these are my bestseller for brides, and despite traditional ivory always being popular, I have been asked to make a rainbow of colour schemes too! I'm currently working on a green one!

Twitter

I've been testing the world of twitter out and must say, it's a great way to network and find other like minded people who you can bounce ideas off. One such contact I've made is the lovely Vicky from Fairy Tale Wedding Company, who brings a whole host of 'trusted suppliers' together under one website umbrella, and lets Brides and Grooms source companies who Vicky has personally researched to confirm their quality and customer service. And guess what, Button Moon Bouquet is one such trusted supplier - hooray! You can check out our page on the website here:

Peacock Wedding

Some very lovely friends of mine are getting married later in the year, and they are having a peacock theme. They have asked me to do the bouquets and buttonholes, and I am so excited to be working with such an amazing colour scheme. Check out my mood board below - don't those colours just ooze glamour and richness? I love it and can't wait to get started!

I've also found some beauties on Etsy....

Up to Date

Morning!
Right, I thought it as time that I brought you up to date with my new venture.
After my wedding, I had lots of compliments on my bouquet, so my little business brain began to whirr. I'd discovered Etsy whilst planning my wedding, and loved the thought of being able to sell my own things on line. So after a bit of market research and doing a couple of bouquet commission for cost price to see if it was a viable business, I decided to try and sell a few bouquets at full price.
Lucky for me it has tuned out to be a good decision. The response to my bouquets has been brilliant, and I have been posting them to USA and Australia as well as UK.

Things have been going so well in fact, that I have decided to attempt to join the wedding industry full time! A bit of a scary leap I must admit, but for various reasons I decided that Costumia had had it's day, and it was time to move on. Continuing Button Moon Bouquet (as I decided to call it) seemed a natural progression.

So here it is - ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Button Moon Bouquet!!

Costumes

So, a little bit about me!
I have a degree in Theatre Design, which has led to my career as a costume designer and maker. Having worked in a theatrical wardrobe for a few years, and also working freelance as a designer, I decided it was time for a change, so got myself a place on a Fashion MA course. At the same time, I took a part time job as a manager in a vintage clothes shop, which combined my 2 loves - vintage clothes and being in charge!!
However, events were conspiring, and whilst part way through my MA, the opportunity came up to open a costume hire business. Through my work as a wardrobe assistant at Birmingham Rep, it became apparent that their huge collection of costumes, which were housed in a cold and filthy warehouse, were in need of some TLC. It broke my heart to see them all go to waste as they sat unloved, so I proposed to The Rep that we set up a hire department. They decided it wasn't something they wanted to do, but were happy for me to write them a business plan and run it myself, with their involvement.
Skip forward a few months, and Costumia was born!

The MA course was put on hold, and my time at Retro Bizarre, the vintage clothes shop, was coming to an end. I continued to deal in vintage clothing on the side, at fairs up and down the country, but my new baby took precedence!
For the last 5 years I have lived and breathed costumes - making, cleaning, hiring, designing, organising, repairing - you get the idea!

My bouquet

So, let me tell you about my bouquet - button moon bouquet's prototype if you like!
As I mentioned, it was made using lots of bits and pieces collected from my years of crafts/costume design/vintage dealing etc. I literally have boxes upon boxes of buttons and beads! To add to this, I had various donations from my lovely friends and family once they realised what I was up to.

The really special item however is the little opal and diamante brooch you can see in the top of this picture. My dear step-father Chris wanted me to have it, as he had picked it up in an antique shop and thought it would go well. The lovely part of it is that his Mum was one of twins, and had owned an almost exact copy of this one. Sadly she has now passed away, but Chris kept the brooch, and my mum wore it on her wedding day. When he saw the brooch 'twin' in that antique shop, he knew he just had to have it! It meant so much to me that he wanted to share it with me, and it becomes even more poignant now, as Chris himself passed away only a few months after our wedding. So now whenever I look at my bouquet, it is filled with wonderful memories, and also serves as a reminder of what a kind and generous man Chris was.
